Theatre

The jewel in the crown of Stratford is the world-renowned Stratford Festival. Each year from April to October, the Festival mounts 10 to 15 productions, ranging from Shakespearean classics, iconic Broadway musicals, and other works for the stage. Four theatres house the various shows – the flagship Festival Theatre; the classic proscenium stage at Avon Theatre; the intimate space of the Studio Theatre; and the stunning latest addition: the new Tom Patterson Theatre.

Dining, Shopping, and Other Activities

The restaurant scene is remarkable for both quality and quantity; not surprising given the local Chef School and large number of chef-owned establishments. Cuisines range from Thai to Italian to Indian to Contemporary Continental; décor and service varies from cheap and cheerful to sophisticated white tablecloth to farmstead dinners hosted in the rolling countryside outside of town.

But the abundance of culture and activities extends far beyond the stage here in Stratford. Shopping is a favourite activity for many visitors: check out the latest fashions or a must-have kitchen gadget; take advantage of biking and hiking trails; walking tours; pamper yourself at one of the day spas; soak up the beauty of Lake Victoria and the Avon River whether leisurely drifting in a paddle boat rental or picnicking on the shore; wander the verdant quiet of the Shakespearean Gardens; the Stratford Perth Museum is always worth a visit with frequently-changing exhibits; art lovers will be captivated by Gallery Stratford’s cutting-edge local and regional artwork.

Not to mention the artisan coffee roasters, the patio cafés and bars, the breweries and distilleries, ice cream and gelato parlours, two Farmers’ Markets, the chocolate shops, artisan bakeries, and more. The Bacon and Ale Trail and the Chocolate Trail are curated tours that hit decadent destinations while exploring the city. In the off-season, Lights on Stratford is a winter festival of lights with numerous free, spectacular displays scattered throughout public spaces in town.

We invite you to come and discover all that Stratford has to offer.
