Over the summer, we were treated to the ice cream reconnaissance that 8-year-old Catherine (and her parents) shared with us. We were able to entice Catherine out of retirement for a new assignment: Candy Store Reviews!
We did a write-up on Rhéo Thompson Candies, its history, and its owners a few months ago. But today, Catherine is giving us her opinion as an undercover customer at this Stratford landmark. As always, she starts with some sage advice: “Be sure to put enough money in the meter because you can lose track of time in this store. We were in there for 1/2 an hour - so be prepared! If you walk by on the street and look in the window, you would have to go in because there's soooo many interesting things to look at.”
She went on to add that “the staff in there were kind and friendly and they talked to me a little bit. I tried the milk chocolate bark first, because it kind of caught my eye. It was the best one!” A few other Catherine-isms. “The store has sooo many varieties. And if I could buy everything for a dollar, I would. Did I already say the bark is delicious? There is such cute packaging. It is adorable and there's many things in one package. Oh, what’s in this one? It’s heavy! Oh… nuts!"
Mom added a bit more context: “We were greeted warmly, and the two staff-members were really friendly and helpful. We sat across the street on the step of the Armory – it was such a beautiful fall day with the sun filtering through the trees, having a treat with my daughter.” Catherine will be back with another Candy Report soon.
