Visitors to Stratford are often astounded by the number and variety of high-quality fine dining restaurants here. What can sometimes get overlooked, however, is the abundance of high quality quicker-service establishments. These spots are great for lunch, grab and go, or a quick bite. We're not talking about fast food chain restaurants. Amanda, your host at Avery House B&B, has been sharing her thoughts on several chef-driven restaurants that have chosen to play in a more casual, affordable, fun category.
"The menu at Sirkel Foods! has an abundance of traditional and funky entrée salads, but the sandwiches are the stars. Over a dozen different options, including classics like Chicken Salad and Smoked Turkey; and more eclectic choices like Toasted Brie and Apple, or House-Cured Salmon with Cream Cheese. They offer takeout only, so grab some sandwiches and head to a table in Market Square or picnic down by the river. My pick is usually the Pickle Snackers with Ham or Summer Sausage. My husband, John, is addicted to their Meatloaf Sandwich."
Amanda continues: "At the south end of Wellington Street, you'll find Soup Surreal. Imagine the “Soup Nazi” from Seinfeld, except the owners, Derek and Ashley, are lovely people! All the soups are made from scratch; usually there are four or more hot varieties on any particular day. Think Mulligatawny, Carrot-Ginger, Beef-Barley, or Classic Chicken Noodle. But I love their large assortment of frozen soups which make for quick and delicious meals. We have several guests at our B&B who take home a cooler full of soups when they visit each year! Yup, soupy-groupies. The menu does a nice job highlighting which soups are gluten-free, or dairy-free, or vegan, etc."
